Write and Update Project Memory

Keep the project goal, decisions, and next actions in a Markdown source-of-truth document. Instead of creating another document after every result, update the same source of truth so the current standard remains easy to find.

  • Project goal and target users
  • Current scope and exclusions
  • Source materials and evidence
  • Confirmed decisions and their reasons
  • Open questions
  • Current result
  • Next actions
  • Related documents and deliverables
  • Last review date

Do not present unverified information as fact. Record it as an open question.

Create the first document

Create a Markdown document named Project Context in this project. Record unverified information as open questions.

After creation, confirm the title, workspace, project, and folder location.

Distinguish replacement from append

Update the existing content when the current standard changes. Append only when adding a dated meeting result or log that should remain alongside earlier records.

Keep everything that is still valid, and update the confirmed decisions, open questions, and next actions.

Do not change the existing body. Append today's review record at the end.

Continuously appending to a current-state document can leave obsolete guidance beside the new standard. Use the appropriate method.

Review before changing

For an important document, inspect the proposed edit first.

Compare the current content with the proposed revision. Do not save it yet.

If the target is ambiguous, inspect the candidates before changing a document with the same name in another workspace or project.

Separate decisions, questions, and actions

  • Confirmed decision — a reviewed choice adopted as the current standard
  • Open question — an issue that still needs an answer or approval
  • Next action — work that needs an owner and execution
  • Reference — evidence for a decision, not the decision itself

Create Kanban cards for executable work and keep decisions in Markdown.

When you create HTML, Diagram, OpenAPI, File, or ERD documents, record their purpose and location in the source-of-truth document. If a deliverable reveals a new decision, update the Markdown document as well.

Confirm after saving

Tell me where you saved the document and summarize what changed.

Check versions and recent activity when necessary. Then continue to Review Results and Continue the Work.
